1.2 PURPOSE:

The Two-Year College (TYC) Education Committee is a standing committee (since October, 1991) of the ACM Education Board. The Committee is concerned with all education issues that affect computing at two-year colleges and in two-year degree programs. The primary purpose of the Committee is to provide curriculum recommendations in all areas of computing for such degree programs. The Committee may also make recommendations on other educational matters affecting such programs.

Note: While detailed budget information is not available, the Committee’s fiscal year budget of $20,000 was nearly fully expended. It is important to note that the Committee engaged in some collaborative efforts with the AACC, the IEEE-CS, and the IEEE-CS TYC Committee, which provided supplemental funding support.

3. PLANS

3.1 Projects that will be completed or terminated in the coming year:

  • TYC CS final report is being printed and distributed nationally. Dissemination efforts will be ongoing.
  • TYC Cybersecurity workshop dissemination efforts (funded by AACC) are due to conclude in the coming year.

3.2 Milestones in active projects during the coming year:

  • TYC CS report is currently being mailed to all two-year colleges.
  • TYC IS report final draft will be distributed to reviewers in Fall 2003; final report expected in Spring 2004.
  • TYC SE report is a component in SE Task Force report; draft out for review Summer 2003

3.3 New projects or programs which are proposed or contemplated:

  • TYC Cybersecurity curriculum proposal has been submitted to NSF for review.
  • TYC CE report will be a joint effort with the IEEE-CS TYC committee.

4. COMMENTS

We appreciate the ongoing funding support from the ACM Ed Board and we are pleased that we have been able to supplement funding through collaborative ventures. The Committee’s website can be found at www.acmtyc.org.
